oneworld welcomes American-US Airways merger

15 febbraio 2013

oneworld has welcomed today's announcement by American Airlines and US Airways of their intention to merge.

The combined airline would maintain the American Airlines name - and oneworld membership.

oneworld CEO Bruce Ashby said: "A bigger and stronger American Airlines will be good for oneworld.   US Airways would add valuable coverage to the oneworld network, particularly within the USA, as well as strengthening customer choice and convenience for all our members worldwide.

"We look forward to welcoming our new customers from US Airways on board the world's premier alliance in due course."

The combined airline will offer more than 6.700 daily flights to 336 destinations in 56 countries, significantly enhancing oneworld.

In their statement announcing their merger plan today, both the merger partners stressed that until the transaction receives all necessary approvals and is completed, which they estimate will occur in the third quarter of 2013, it is business as usual for both of them.
