British Airways and Iberia extend code-sharing

06 luglio 2002

oneworld™ partners British Airways and Iberia are extending their code-sharing agreement, making it easier for the customers to fly to more destinations on one another's networks.

In the latest step by oneworld airlines to deepen working relationships, the BA code will from 12 July be added to Iberia flights between its Madrid hub and Havana, in Cuba, and Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic. At the same time, the IB flight prefix placed on services flown by British Airways between its London Heathrow home and Budapest, in Hungary, Nairobi, Kenya, and Singapore.

Michael Jackson, British Airways Head of Alliances and Franchises, said the move "reflects the airlines' on-going commitment to find new opportunities to work together in the interests of all our customers."

British Airways and Iberia first began code-sharing in 1999 on UK and Spanish domestic routes. Further destinations have been added in four phases of expansion, with this latest stage taking the number of routes covered to 39.

The two airlines have also established joint check-in, ticketing, lounges and handling in 24 cities, mostly in Europe and South America, and act as one another's sales representative in 27 countries.
